The story behind the Recopa:

A timeless tribute to the Master

The Recopa is not just a shoe. It’s a symbol and a tangible tribute to a man who redefined football: Johan Cruyff. Johan changed the game, the shoe followed

From vision to Icon

In the 1980s, when Cruyff was not only dominating the field as a player but also as a visionary, the idea was born to translate his unique style and philosophy into footwear. Not just a football shoe, but a statement of style and something that captured the elegance and simplicity of his game in a design.

A Shoe with vision

To bring this idea to life, none other than Italian designer Emilio Lazzarini was brought on board. Known for his craftsmanship and experience with high-end footwear, Lazzarini designed the first-ever Recopa with a clear mission: "To create a shoe as intelligent and forward-thinking as Cruyff himself."

This wasn’t just a shoe

Inspired by Cruyff’s minimalist style of play, Lazzarini opted for a sleek silhouette, premium leather, and refined details and sophisticated without being loud. The name Recopa references the European Cup Winners' Cup, a trophy Johan won with Ajax in 1971. This wasn’t just a shoe. It was a statement.

A modern reinterpretation that respects its origins

The current Recopa line from the Johan Cruyff Collection pays homage to Lazzarini’s original design, now updated with modern materials, luxurious finishes, and the unmistakable Cruyff signature. It’s not a retro copy, it’s an evolution. Just as Johan would have wanted.

Don’t just wear a shoe.

Wear history. Wear vision. Wear Cruyff.
