Johan Cruyff has become synonymous with the number 14. Of course not without reason. Many people forget that in some of Johan's favourite games, he actually wore number 9, as he did for FC Barcelona. During his time at Ajax he also played some rare and iconic matches with the number 9. Read more below.

RARE AMSTERDAM BLUE
In the 1965/1966 season, Johan Cruyff signs a full-professional contract with Ajax. After finishing in a disappointing 13th place in the league last season, it was time for something new. This season, Ajax had their international breakthrough led by Cruyff and newly appointed Rinus Michels. In addition to the classic red and white home shirt, the club played their away games in this completely blue outfit this season.
RARE AMSTERDAM WHITE
In 1966, Johan played one of his favourite games ever. In the Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam, Cruyff and Ajax beat Liverpool 5-1 in extreme weather conditions. Because of Liverpool’s red jersey, Ajax played in a rare white shirt so the players could see each other better. A legendary game that is seen as the start of total football.
